Beginning of the second half of our 2021-2022 curling season
Dear curling friends,
The new year is just around the corner and with it comes the start of the 2nd half of our curling season. The first half, from the Opening Bonspiel, the leagues draws, the new Learn to Curl group and up the the Turkey Bonspiel, went really well with great shots, tight competitions and a lot of fun! Thanks to all the volunteers contributing as board members, ice maintenance, draws/bonspiel convenors, bar and kitchen. You made this possible.
LAUNCH OF THE 2ND HALF!
The regular Leagues play will resume on Tuesday January 4th. J.C. Poirier and Ian Fraser will be making up the draws for Wednesday night open curling and Tuesday night fixed league on Thursday night December 30. If you played in the previous draw, you are in the next draw unless you tell them otherwise. If you want to get in a new draw let them know too, by Thursday evening. You can email them gleneil@xplornet.ca / jeanchristianporier@gmail.com
As for the Saturday triples league, the teams will be made up January 5, you can sign up as an individual or a team. Ian is looking for more players to make this league run, so if you have any questions about it please contact him gleneil@xplornet.ca or 613-678-1788.
For the Thursday night open league, they will be making the teams up on January 7. Once again, if interested in joining or have questions please let Ian or JC know.
Finally, Janet MacCrimmon and Lance Laviolette, the Monday night and Daytime league’s convenors, have already reach the curlers already playing in the previous draws. If any members wish to join those leagues, please contact Janet or Lance directly. Same thing with the Friday night Industrial League, if you want to join the league you can contact Angela Cullen or Lindsey Howes.
You can find the details on the different leagues on this Poll Card.
PRACTICES
To give members the chance to get ready for the upcoming leagues, it will be possible to practice on the ice starting tomorrow, Thursday December 30th. It’s still mandatory for anyone who wants to practice to send an email to Andy Harrison, andrewharrison100@hotmail.com so we have contact tracing at all times. Andy will not respond to you unless you cannot practice at whatever day/time you state.
COVID UPDATE
As probably all of you, we are following closely what’s going on with the pandemic and the rise of cases brought by the new Omicron variant. Based on the current Ontario and EOHU advice, we are putting some new measure in place. Outside events have been cancelled, the lounge has to close by 11 and is reduced to 50% capacity in the lounge, which is not an issue with our regular league draws. We are proceeding based on the most recent guidelines and will update them as needed based on guidance from the Province or the Health Unit.
All other distancing measures and play protocol will stay the same as what was in place before the break until we received new directives. The health and safety of our members remains our paramount concern and we will continue to make informed decisions based on the most current recommendations from the relevant authorities.
In the name of all the board Members, I want to wish to all of you and your families a wonderful year 2022, full of health, happiness and lots of curling!
